About Us

The Burlington Chess Club hosts weekly chess tournaments every Tuesday at 7 PM (with pairings posted by 7:30). The tournaments are CFC rated and span five rounds, with one round per week. The time control is 60 min + 30 sec bonus. We also host rapid and blitz tournaments throughout the year.

Entrance is from the parking lot in the rear.
The playing area is in the gym in the middle of the building.
Casual play is in the Music Room across the foyer.

Joining the Club

Your first night of casual or competitive chess is on us! Feel free to come out any Tuesday night after 7 PM and we’ll pair you in the current tournament or against another casual chess fan. We ask that all players show up no later than 7:15 to allow us to post the pairings promptly for 7:30. Not sure if you want to commit to playing? That’s okay too! Come out, see the club and talk to our players.

Annual Membership

The annual membership covers all of the 5 round classical tournaments, as well as the rapid and blitz events held throughout the year.

Casual Players Welcome

If you are newer to chess or not interested in playing competitively, our casual chess section will be perfect for you! Each night of casual chess costs only $5. Play against other newer players or challenge existing club members, all while expanding your chess knowledge.

CFC Membership

In order to play in rated tournaments, a CFC membership is required:

Tournament Rules

  1. You must keep score of both your moves and your opponent’s moves (optional in rapid/blitz)
  2. If you touch a piece, you must move it (if it's legal)
  3. If you touch an opponent's piece, you must capture it (if it's legal)
  4. You must castle with one hand, moving the king first
  5. You must make your move and press the clock with the same hand
  6. Your move is not complete until your clock has been pressed
  7. You must not talk, make noise, or disturb your opponent (or anyone else)
